Polycarbonate diol (PCD), CAS 92538-66-4, is an aliphatic polycarbonate ether diol used as the polyol component in polyurethane systems. Its carbonate backbone gives finished PU better hydrolysis resistance than conventional polyester polyols. Formulated systems also show strong abrasion and chemical resistance, UV weathering stability, and retained flexibility at low temperature. Reaction with isocyanates is consistent, molecular weight distribution is narrow, and compatibility with other polyols is good. Supplied as a colorless liquid, 99% industrial grade, in 200 kg drums, MOQ 1,000 kg.

Waterborne polyurethane dispersions built on PCD draw on the carbonate backbone for resistance to hydrolysis in aqueous systems. Films keep flexibility at low temperature and resist abrasion and chemical attack in service. Consistent reaction with isocyanates and a narrow molecular weight distribution support reproducible dispersion preparation.
PCD-based TPU grades target applications where polyester polyols hydrolyse too quickly and polyether grades give up mechanical strength. The carbonate backbone improves hydrolysis resistance while keeping low-temperature toughness, tear strength and abrasion resistance. Supplied as a colorless liquid for conventional prepolymer and one-shot processes.
Coated fabrics and microfiber leather must survive repeated flexing, moisture and UV exposure without embrittlement. PCD contributes hydrolysis resistance, abrasion resistance and UV weathering stability to the PU skin, so hand feel and surface integrity hold up longer in automotive interior, upholstery and apparel applications.
Protective coatings for steel, concrete and process equipment need chemical resistance and adhesion over long service life. PCD-based PU binders resist hydrolysis under humid and wet conditions and hold abrasion resistance where mechanical wear is severe. In vacuum metallization systems the same polyol supports the toughness and surface quality thin metallized layers require.
PCD reacts with aromatic and aliphatic isocyanate prepolymers through its terminal hydroxyl groups. Reaction activity is stable and predictable, and compatibility with polyester and polyether polyols allows partial substitution without reformulating the whole system. Adhesives, sealants, cast elastomers and foams can be built on PCD where hydrolysis resistance is the deciding requirement.
